The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Honourable Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has said that the December in GH activities is expected to rake in Two Hundred Million Dollars as revenue to the Country.
He made this statement in Accra on Monday 14th November 2022 during the unveiling of the December in GH Magazine.
Dr Awal added that, the event which has been widely promoted across Europe, America, China, and South America is also expected to attract One Hundred Thousand holiday makers into Ghana.
He added that our Culture is based on our food, such as fufu, tuo zaafi, kenkey, waakye hence there was need to present our food in a hygienic manner to patrons during the festive season.
He stated that the ministry was pursuing domestic tourism drive there by promoting corporate tourism, couple tourism, educational tourism, and funeral tourism to encourage citizens to know their country.
“We would drive this campaign by giving packages and other incentives to corporate institutions to take advantage and explore Ghana”, he mentioned.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr Akwasi Agyeman said the December in GH committee received over 200 entries across the country for endorsement, however the committee was able to endorse 91 events, which would be spread across all the 16 regions of Ghana.
He added that some of the activities endorsed for the December in GH include, Rhythms on Da runway, YouTube creators, Africa Food festival, National Festival of Arts and Music, Erna Akwaaba Gala, Kids in Tourism and Roverman Festival of Plays.
He stated that, December in GH is the country’s biggest celebration made up of Cultural, Entertainment, Adventure, Nightlife, Fashion, Gastronomy, Tours, and Community Service.
Mr. Agyeman noted that as the gateway to Africa, Ghana is the go-to hotspot to experience the December holiday season in West Africa.
“From the moment you arrive in Ghana, know that you’re about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. If it’s your first trip, prepare to see an Africa you never imagined’’, he revealed.
He therefore urged patrons to prepare themself for an experience that surpasses their expectation. The activities he said will begin on November 20th and ends on January 2nd, 2023.
