The Minister-Designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture has stated that Ghana is very prepared to partner with the Government of Spain to work towards attracting investments into the country. He made these comments when he was called on at the Ministry by a delegation from the Spanish Embassy in Accra led by the Ambassador, His Excellency Javier Gutiérrez.
In terms of deepening the bilateral relationship existing between the two countries, the Ambassador recounted that in 2019, discussions commenced on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism, Arts and Culture between Spain and Ghana. He noted that the finalisation of the MoU had stalled over the years and there was the need to revive the process towards signing the MoU as soon as possible. The MoU would go a long way to enhance collaborations between the two countries.
The Ambassador also seized the opportunity to inform the Honourable Minister-Designate of the publication of the 2nd Edition of “A Guide to Ghana’s Cultural Heritage”; a publication made in partnership with UNESCO and the Embassy of Spain in Ghana. He shared that plans were in place to formally present a copy to the Ministry, and to donate copies of the book to various institutions. He further underscored that the content of the book is a useful tool for selling the rich heritage of Ghana and encouraged that copies should be made available to hotels and other tourist sites in Ghana.
Hon. Mercer expressed the government’s unflinching interest in a good partnership and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to finalising the MoU once feedback from its Spanish counterparts has been received. He also expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for the offer extended to partner with the Government of Ghana in the organisation of joint events in the arts and culture space.
