It was indeed a night filled with mixed feelings as the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer joined the “Reverential Night” – an event constituting the climax of the 2024 Emancipation Day, on Wednesday 31st July 20 at the Cape Coast Castle. To be more explicit, he was taken in retrospect to his days as a 12-year-old form one student at Adisadel College when together with his brothers, visited this castle on excursion.
Hon. Mercer shared that what this revered site represented to him was different from what he grew to appreciate. The reality of its harrow and hallowed past and its historical significance can certainly not be overemphasized.
He affirmed that it was important that we reaffirm our commitment to building a brighter future for posterity. “Our forbears laboured. We share the glory of their toil”, he said. “Ours is to do exploits to add to their gain. So those who come after us will take up the story…. (Culled from Adisadel Ode). Aluta Continua! Albeit in a positive way!!!:, he added.
