A Joint Technical Committee (JTC) of the signed agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of the Republic of South Africa was launched by the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, Ghana, and the Department of Tourism, South Africa on 27th March, 2023 at the GTA Head office.
The launch was in fulfilment of one of the areas of cooperation under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of cooperation between the two countries in 2011, where the JTC is to oversee the implementation of the MoU.
Projects to be implemented in the MoU include; grading and classification systems, operationalization of the 90-day visa waiver between the two countries, development of the tourism products, exchange of familiarization visits for small and medium tour operators, tourism investment forums and data collection towards the establishment of the tourism satellite account.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. John Yaw Agbeko and the Director -General for Department of Tourism of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Victor Tharage who are both Chairs to the JTC appended their signatures to the implementation of the projects.
Other dignitaries present included the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Ms. Grace Mason, the Chief Executive Officer of GTA, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, General Services, GTA, Mr. Ben Anane Nsiah, Director of Product, Development and Investment, GTA, Mr. Charles Buabeng, Director of Corporate Affairs, GTA, Mr. Jones Aruna Nelson, and representatives of the Tourism Ministries of Ghana and South Africa.
