The Vice President of Meta Incorporated (formerly Facebook Inc.), responsible for Public Policy, and in charge of Africa, Middle East and Turkiye, Mr Kojo Boakye, on Wednesday 26th March 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss how Meta Incorporated can contribute to the growth of the tourism, culture and creative sector of Ghana’s economy. According to Mr Boakye, the priority of the Ministry is to use the culture and creative arts as a catalyst for economic growth and this very much aligns with Meta’s vision, which is to “Build the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible”.
According to Mr Boakye, Meta Incorporated has already invested in Ghana to equip the youth with digital skills needed to seize the many opportunities the internet presents through the social media. This includes marketing and selling the products that they have developed with their digital skills, thereby earning them income.
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, on her part, thanked Meta Incorporated for the collaboration they seek with the Ministry. She requested training and capacity building for the staff of the Ministry. The training, according to her, should be extended to all thirteen agencies of the Ministry for it to make an impact on the sector.
She also requested that the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) be brought on board in all the meetings and the discussions that will be held.
Present at the meeting were Mrs Sade Dada, Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa, and Mrs Mabel Cudjoe, the Director for Research, Statistics and Information Management and Mr Geoffrey Tamakloe, Director for Tourism, at the Ministry.
