The Minister-designate for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer met with management staff of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Wednesday 3rd April 2024 in Accra. The purpose of the maiden meeting was for him to know and understand the functions performed by the various directorates of the ministry.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Egyapa Mercer said he would ensure that the Tourism and Cultural policies that are being reviewed currently are approved by the Cabinet.
He said he would ensure that there is harmonization of the legislation of Agencies of the Ministry and resolve any clashes that exist within the current Acts that set up these agencies.
He indicated that he would operate an open-door policy and assured management of helping push the agenda of the ministry during his tenure.
He urged members of management to work hard but reiterated the need for mutual respect for all. He directed and asked all directorates to identify three (3) key activities they would undertake for the year and make them available to his office.
On his part, Hon. Mark Okraku-Mantey, Deputy Minister welcomed the minister and urged management to help him achieve his set target for the sector.
He also called for a change in attitude and to work together to foster the development of the nation.
Mr John Yao Agbeko, Chief Director of the ministry, assured the minister that management was ready to work with him to move the ministry forward.
There were presentations from all directorates of the ministry, and it was done to apprise the minister of the mandates of the various directorates within the ministry.
A schedule has also been drawn for the minister to have a one-on-one engagement with Heads of Agencies of the Ministry from Thursday, April 4th to Friday, April 5th April 2024 at the Ministry.
